Kellogg advised Kiev not to abandon negotiations with Russia

Kiev should not make public statements about the rejection of peace talks with Moscow. This was stated on May 29 by the US Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, on ABC News.
According to Kellogg, he discussed the issue with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, whom he named as the main Ukrainian negotiator at the upcoming round of talks in Istanbul.
"I always warn him not to say such things, because if you don't show up, and showing up is a part of life, you need to show that you're serious," Kellogg said, speaking about the importance of demonstrating readiness for a cease—fire.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced on May 28 that the second round of talks between Russia and Ukraine would be held in Istanbul on June 2. He expressed the hope that all parties interested in the success of the peace process would provide support for a new round of discussions.
On the same day, the head of the Russian delegation, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Medinsky, invited the Ukrainian Minister of Defense and the head of the Ukrainian delegation to negotiations with Russia, Rustem Umerov, to meet to exchange memoranda with a position on a cease-fire and conflict resolution. According to Medinsky, Russia is ready for a "meaningful" discussion of an agreement to end the Ukrainian conflict. Umerov said that Ukraine had submitted its draft memorandum to Russia and was waiting for the Russian version of the document.
