The initiative to hold a second round of talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul is important. This was announced to journalists on May 29 by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

"Given all the conditions, the parties, of course, need a place to meet face to face and sit down at the negotiating table...> The Russian side announced this (the initiative to hold talks in Istanbul on June 2. — Ed.) right after we left. This is an important event," the minister said, as quoted by DHA.

Fidan also called Turkey an ideal choice for holding a new round of discussions on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.

He indicated his plans to meet with Kiev officials, including Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, to discuss the "urgent need for a cease-fire."

Yesterday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that the second round of talks between Russia and Ukraine would be held in Istanbul on June 2. He expressed the hope that all parties interested in the success of the peace process would provide support for a new round of discussions.
