- The United States announced plans to develop an unmanned version of the F-35 fighter jet.

The American military company Lockheed Martin intends to develop a new unmanned version of the F-35 fighter jet. This was announced on May 29 by the Defense One portal.
"According to Lockheed Martin CEO [James Thacklet], the company plans to develop a version of the F-35 capable of flying without a pilot," the material says.
According to the newspaper, it is also planned to improve the aircraft by improving the coating to ensure stealth, redesigning the engine nozzles, changing the appearance and achieving new electronic warfare capabilities.
The company expects to achieve flight autonomy in a relatively short period of time, and early developments will be used for this, Defense One writes.
On May 15, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States is considering the possibility of creating a new model of fighter jets, the F—55, which will be an improved version of the currently used F-35. He noted that the main difference of the new fighter will be the use of two engines.
