- The Foreign Ministry announced the impossibility of extending the memorandum with the United Nations on the grain deal.

The memorandum between Russia and the United Nations (UN) on the grain deal will expire in July, it cannot be extended. This was announced on May 29 by Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"As for the Russia—UN memorandum, it was designed for three years and is valid until July 22 of this year. The text of the document does not provide for the possibility of its further extension," Logvinov said in an interview with TASS.
According to the head of the Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the efforts of Moscow and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on the memorandum did not lead to the desired impact. For the most part, this was due to Western sanctions to block access of Russian fertilizers and food to world markets, he stressed.
Logvinov clarified that, for its part, the Russian Federation faithfully fulfills its obligations to supply grain and fertilizers under the memorandum, with special emphasis on humanitarian assistance to the most needy countries."Газета.Ru ".
On April 18, the UN secretariat announced its readiness to participate in the implementation of the Black Sea initiative, however, Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the organization, indicated in an interview with Izvestia that the Russian Federation was not discussing with the UN the possibility of the organization's involvement in the renewed Black Sea initiative.
Following a meeting in Saudi Arabia on March 24, Russia and the United States agreed to resume the Black Sea initiative. We are talking about the so-called grain deal, concluded in July 2022 in Istanbul with the mediation of the United Nations and Turkey. It expired in July 2023 after Moscow refused to extend it.
