Europe is pursuing a policy of escalating the conflict in the Baltic Sea. This was announced on May 28 by Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Maritime Board, during a meeting on the development of the Kaliningrad Region's fisheries sector.

"In addition to the ongoing sanctions pressure on Russia, Western countries are creating military tensions in the Baltic Sea, including through provocative actions. In these conditions, we are forced to take and are already taking retaliatory measures," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

As the Chairman of the Maritime Board noted, the actions of European countries also affected the field of industrial fishing in the Baltic Sea. He clarified that Russian fishing vessels have been restricted access to a number of ports. For example, in Germany and the Netherlands, Russian ships refuse to serve under various pretexts. In addition, Patrushev stressed that the ports of the Faroe Islands are also closed to the Russian Federation.

The assistant to the President of the Russian Federation also recalled export duties on Russian seafood supplies, as a result of which costs and production costs are rising.

Earlier, on May 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported initiatives to respond to attempts by Western countries to restrict navigation in the Baltic Sea. It was reported that due to the active actions of NATO in the Baltic Sea, representatives of Western states are actually trying to commit acts of piracy.
