- Wagenknecht called on Merz to discuss with Zelensky the rejection of Ukraine's accession to NATO

The leader of the German Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice party, Sarah Wagenknecht, called on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss Ukraine's refusal to join NATO with the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky. On May 28, she posted a corresponding post on her page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
"It would be responsible if the Chancellor found a balance of interests and discussed a compromise line for negotiations with the President of Ukraine. For example, Merz should discuss with Zelensky the refusal to join NATO," Wagenknecht wrote.
She also stressed that ultimatums and sanctions from European countries do not contribute to the advancement of negotiations on a peaceful settlement.
"Not an ultimatum on a cease—fire, but a NATO refusal would be proof that Zelensky and the Europeans also want serious negotiations," the politician added.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on May 26 that European countries were not contributing to peace efforts in Ukraine by their actions. According to him, the European Union (EU) stands in the way of further increasing pressure on Russia.
