Four teenagers wounded in a knife attack in the city of Baikalsk, Irkutsk region, are receiving inpatient treatment, Russian Assistant Minister of Health Alexei Kuznetsov said on May 28.
"One of them is in serious condition, the others are in a moderate condition," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
A team of the air ambulance center with a resuscitator and vascular surgeons is involved in the work at the Slyudyanskaya district hospital, where children are staying.
"It is planned to evacuate the injured for treatment at the regional children's clinical hospital in Irkutsk, as well as conduct telemedicine consultations with specialists from federal medical centers. The provision of medical assistance to the victims is coordinated by the Federal Center for Disaster Medicine of the Russian Ministry of Health," said Kuznetsov.
The deaths of five teenagers and the wounding of four as a result of a knife attack became known earlier that day. It is specified that after that, the alleged suspect set fire to the house and died as a result of the fire that started. A criminal case has been opened into the tragedy. As reported to Interfax by the regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the victims ranged from 13 to 17 years old, including one girl.
Later, the Commissioner for Children's Rights reported that one of the injured children had undergone surgery. An operational headquarters has been set up in Baikalsk following the incident. The head of the administration of the Baikal urban settlement declared three days of mourning in connection with the tragedy.
