Putin congratulated military and civilian personnel on the Day of the Border Guard

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, May 28, congratulated veterans, military personnel, civilian personnel and border guards of the FSB of Russia on Border Guard Day. The Head of State expressed special gratitude to the veterans, all those who devoted themselves to protecting the borders of the Motherland during the Great Patriotic War.
As Putin noted, the legendary traditions of the Russian military service have been laid down and strengthened by many generations since the time of Ancient Russia.
"We will always remember those who were the first to meet the enemy as soldiers of the frontier post in June 1941. Their immortal mass heroism became one of the symbols of the national resistance of the truly Patriotic War — a harbinger of the great victory. The immortal glory of the victorious generation inspires us today, multiplies our strength and determination to defend the interests of the Fatherland, its security and territorial integrity, to fight for truth and justice, and for peace in our native land," the Russian leader said in a video message.
So, during the special military operation (SVO), the units of the border authorities of the FSB of the Russian Federation heroically and honorably proved themselves in carrying out their tasks, Putin said. The Head of State expressed confidence that the Russian border guards would continue to achieve decent results in all areas of their work.
"To fight back against any threat, to stop attempts to violate the state border, attacks by saboteurs and terrorists, to identify and eliminate channels of drug trafficking, illegal migration and smuggling, and, of course, to promote the development of effective cross—border cooperation," Putin said.
In his closing remarks, the President wished the border guards and their families success, happiness and health and thanked them for their faithful and honest service to the Motherland and the people.
Russia celebrates Border Guard Day on May 28, a celebration of the guards of the borders of the Russian Federation, elite troops who have been providing state security for more than a century. The border guards, nicknamed the "green Berets," serve in a territory stretching over 60,000 km, because Russia borders 16 states on land and two by sea. In 2025, the celebration falls on a Tuesday.
