On this day in 1918, the RSFSR Border Guard was created, which was renamed the troops a year later.

Border Guard Day entered the modern calendar of professional holidays in 1994 by decree of the President of the Russian Federation. Its main goal is to pay tribute to the soldiers who serve at the state borders. An area of more than 60,000 km is under their protection. Today, Russia has land borders with 16 countries and sea borders with two more states.
