Zakharova called Merz's self-promotion words about lifting restrictions for Kiev

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's statements on behalf of third countries about lifting restrictions on the range of missiles supplied to Ukraine look like self-promotion and attempts to assert themselves. This was announced on May 27 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
She expressed doubt that the current German chancellor was authorized by anyone to make serious statements on behalf of several countries.
"I think it's obvious that Merz decided to work out, including self-promotion. Maybe the person is new and is not very aware or does not measure, so to speak, what he is saying," she said at a briefing.
She recalled that Merz became the first chancellor in history whom the Bundestag could not elect the first time, and noted that "maybe he wants to appear strong." According to Zakharova, after such a rather humiliating procedure, the German chancellor can assert himself with such statements.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the topic of lifting restrictions on the range of missiles supplied to Ukraine is not one about which one can "throw words to the wind that are not supported by an understanding of responsibility for their utterance." She clarified that Germany would further drive itself into a hole by an appropriate decision. In addition, Zakharova stressed that with such a position, Berlin will no longer be able to say that it supports a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
On May 26, Merz announced that Britain, France, Germany and the United States had lifted restrictions on the range of missiles supplied to Ukraine. He noted that now it is necessary to ensure the supply of these weapons to Kiev. However, later the co-chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Vice-Chancellor of Germany Lars Klingbeil refuted Merz's statement about the lifting of restrictions. The next day, the German Chancellor said that he had talked about the decisions that had been taken a few months ago.
