Iran confirms willingness to compromise with the United States on its nuclear program
Tehran is open to compromises on its nuclear program in negotiations with the United States, but uranium enrichment remains an issue beyond discussion. This was announced on May 26 by the representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Bagai.
"If the goal of the United States is to ensure that Iran's nuclear program is not turned into a weapon, then I think it will be easy for us," he told CNN.
When asked how a compromise could be reached in the negotiations, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman replied: "In many ways." However, he did not specify exactly how.
Bagai then added that the Islamic Republic's right to nuclear energy must be protected, which is in line with Iran's long-standing negotiating position.
"If [the United States'] intention is to deprive the Iranians of the right to peaceful nuclear energy, I think that would be very problematic because, in my opinion, it would really cast doubt on the entire [negotiation] process," he added.
Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump announced that progress had been made on the nuclear deal in negotiations with Iran. Trump called the negotiations very good, and also spoke about the real progress on the issue of the nuclear deal with Tehran.
