The United States is actively involved in mediation for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. This was announced on May 26 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, answering a question from a correspondent of Izvestia.

"The United States is taking the most active part [in resolving the conflict]," he said.

Peskov added that Turkey had also contributed to the negotiations on the settlement of the conflict. According to him, the Turkish side provided a venue for negotiations and provided mediation services. He added that Russia is currently preparing a draft memorandum, which will be submitted to Kiev. The Kremlin representative noted that the Russian Federation should receive the same document from the Ukrainian side.

Peskov noted that the continuation of the practice of mass exchanges of prisoners of war with Kiev depends on how the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations will end.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on May 21 that the US authorities would assess progress in resolving the Ukrainian conflict after studying the text of the Russian memorandum. He noted that in the near future, Moscow is expected to prepare an appropriate document with requirements for a cease-fire.
