The FSB suppressed the activities of a terrorist cell in the Nizhny Novgorod region

Employees of the Federal Security Service (FSB) in the Nizhny Novgorod region have identified and suppressed the activities of a cell of radical Islamists consisting of immigrants from Central Asian countries. This was announced on May 26 by the department's Public Relations Center.
The group consisted of seven citizens from one of the Central Asian States. According to the FSB, the participants acted on the instructions of a foreign emissary stationed in Poland.
"The defendants spread a terrorist ideology among local Muslims and migrant workers aimed at forcibly seizing power and creating a so—called worldwide caliphate," the report said.
During the secret meetings, members of the group also engaged in recruiting new supporters. During searches at their places of residence, propaganda materials banned in Russia, communications equipment and electronic media used in illegal activities were seized.
"Criminal cases have been initiated against the two leaders of the group, its ordinary members have been administratively detained and will be deported to the country of origin," the FSB said.
On March 28, employees of the Russian FSB directorate for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol stopped the illegal activities of regional supporters of a terrorist neo-Nazi organization in the region. During the investigation, an 18-year-old resident of Crimea was detained, involved in the attack and infliction of bodily harm to citizens. He is also suspected of damaging property, arson and applying extremist symbols.
