Italy urged not to abandon the Vatican as a place of negotiations on Ukraine

The Vatican may become a platform for the final stages of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on the settlement of the conflict. This was announced on May 25 by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
"The channel opened with the Vatican should not be burned. A place for peace talks like this may be appropriate at the end of the negotiation process," Tajani said in an interview with Corriere della Sera newspaper.
The Wall Street Journal reported on May 22, citing sources, that the next round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on the settlement of the conflict could take place in the Vatican in mid-June. An American delegation may also attend the meeting.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on May 20 that the Vatican had expressed a desire to host talks between Russia and Ukraine. At the same time, he added that so far no specific decisions have been made about the place of continuation of possible future contacts. He stressed that the Russian side is grateful to everyone who is ready to contribute.
