Latvia calls on the European Union (EU) countries to suspend the issuance of visas to Russian citizens. This was announced on May 25 by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Brazhe.

"Latvia calls on EU countries to suspend the issuance of visas to Russian citizens, citing security concerns," she wrote on her page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to her, the number of Schengen visas issued to Russian citizens in 2024 increased by 25% compared to 2023.

On March 6, Latvian Interior Minister Richard Kozlovskis also called on EU countries to stop issuing visas to Russian citizens.
