There are no special methods for predicting extreme weather in summer. This was announced on May 25 by the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand.

"Therefore, as soon as you hear that it will be the hottest summer, you need to ask: 'Where can I get acquainted with your forecasting method?'" he said in an interview with TASS.

It is clarified that Vilfand made such a statement as a result of emerging reports about the hottest summer of 2025.

According to him, there are no methods that would allow us to draw such conclusions. The forecast of the hottest or coldest time of the year is beyond the limits of modern scientific knowledge, Vilfand added.

On May 22, Anatoly Tsygankov, head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Service's crisis management department, told Izvestia that hot spells are predicted in regions traditionally prone to this, but it is impossible to talk about a single temperature picture for the whole of Russia.

He specified that this year hot weather is expected in the southern regions of the Urals, including Chelyabinsk and Kurgan, as well as in the southern part of the Siberian Federal District — Tomsk, Omsk, Kemerovo regions and Krasnoyarsk Territory.
