The winter of 2024-2025 was warmer than usual in many regions of Russia, so, according to a famous saying, the summer should be cool. And although it is quite difficult to predict the weather for the summer now, as it is still more than three months before the beginning of the heat season, some forecasters have already given an answer to the question of when this year will be warm and whether to wait for heat.

So, according to the head of the Meteo forecasting center Alexander Shuvalov, summer in 2025 will come earlier than usual.

"Such a trend can be traced - year by year the duration of the summer period is increasing," he said. However, there remains a 30% chance that it will be cold. The remaining 70% are in favor of a normal or even hot summer.

According to other forecasts, the year 2025 could be among the three or five hottest in the history of weather observations. Roman Vilfand, the scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, said.

"But these are still such calculations, which remind me of the inflation forecast. One should not take it seriously now. This forecast will be clarified in the middle of the year," the expert warned.

In Moscow, experts from the Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection advised residents suffering from allergies to stock up on necessary medications in advance. Although blooming is not yet observed, the season may start earlier than usual.

Inna Latysheva, climatologist and head of the Department of Meteorology and Physics of Near-Earth Space of the Faculty of Geography of the IGU, noted that the seasons of the year have shifted, so winters have become later, the weather is colder in spring, the beginning of summer is also cool, but then the earth warms up and the heat passes to other seasons.

According to the expert, the summer of 2025 in Siberia will be hot, people will have to use air conditioners more often, precipitation will be less, and droughts will be more. Such hot weather is expected not only this year, but also in the following years.

The highest temperatures, tentatively, will be observed in July and August in regions in the south of Russia.

Abnormal weather conditions, windstorms and droughts await Russians

Unusually warm winter, according to experts, may be a harbinger of natural anomalies throughout Russia. There will appear such natural phenomena that have not previously been characteristic of our country. Among the main ones are windstorms and hurricanes.

In addition, it is possible to repeat the conditions of last year, when due to heavy precipitation sharply rising water levels in rivers, which led to flooding, and strong wind gusts fell trees and flimsy buildings. Special attention should be paid to tornadoes, which already appeared last year not only on the Black Sea, but also in the center of the country: the Chelyabinsk region and Bashkortostan. This year they may become more frequent.

Some regions, especially Siberia, will be characterized by drought, lack of precipitation and forest fires. This was stated by the leading specialist of the weather center "Fobos" Evgeny Tishkovets.

Other experts agree with this opinion. "<...> we should be prepared for unusual weather phenomena in 2025 as well," Maxim Simakin, an employee of Perm National Research Polytechnic University and an expert oceanologist, said earlier.

El Niño and La Niña

According to forecasters, the Earth is now experiencing a natural phenomenon called La Niña. It is associated with a drop in water temperature in the equatorial part of the Pacific Ocean, which then comes to the coasts and affects weather conditions almost all over the world. However, it is expected to be short-lived.

The other natural phenomenon is called El Niño. The main difference between the two is this: when La Niña prevails on the planet, heat from the atmosphere escapes intensely into the ocean and average air temperatures around the world become lower; with El Niño, the flow of warm air goes from the ocean into the atmosphere and causes an abnormal rise in water surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific Ocean and then in all corners of the globe.
