The Iranian director's film "A Simple Accident" won the main award at Cannes.

Iranian director Jafar Panahi's action-packed political thriller "A Simple Accident" won the Palme d'Or grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, May 24. The film raises themes of justice, violence, and collective retribution.
"This is probably one of the most predictable prizes in the history of the show, because Jafar Panahi came to Cannes for the first time in 20 years. He is the largest Iranian director.: He is the winner of the main prizes of two other world film festivals — Berlin and Venice," said Sergei Sychev, a correspondent for Izvestia.
The second place in the event was taken by Norwegian director Joakim Triera with the film "Sentimental Value". The work tells the story of a gradually disintegrating family.
The award for best director was presented to Brazilian director Kleber Mendons Filio for the film "Secret Agent". The film tells the story of a scientist who is on the run during the military dictatorship in Brazil in the 1970s.
Brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne won the award for the drama "Young Mothers". The plot of the film is connected with a shelter for teenage mothers, in which five girls face the difficulties of early motherhood, depression, and stressful meetings.
On the same day, a major power outage was reported in Cannes on the closing day of the film festival. Because of this, film screenings were suspended at the event, and the audience was asked to evacuate.
