Films starring Jodie Foster, Elle Fanning, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson will be officially released in Russia. This became known during the 78th Cannes Film Festival, which is coming to an end recently. In parallel with it, there is also a film market, where our distributors are also very active. See the Izvestia article about which films we will see in cinemas soon.

Palm and Oscar candidates

The Cannes film market Marche du Film traditionally runs in parallel with the famous festival. The business section, which is aimed at distributors and distributors, features not only original films, as in the screening program, but also commercial films aimed at the widest audience. And some of the high-profile releases have already been sold to Russia.

"The first purchase is The Private Life of Rebekah Zlotowski, with the wonderful Jodie Foster," Tatiana Dolzhenko, general Director of the Provzglyad distributor company, told Izvestia. — This is a detective story about a psychoanalyst who investigates the death of her patient. Very exciting.

The film stars Daniel Autoy, Virginie Efira, Mathieu Amalric, Vincent Lacoste. The distributor plans to release the film in Russia in September.

— The second project from the non—competitive Midnight screenings program of the Cannes Film Festival is the Japanese psychological thriller by Genki Kawamura Exit 8. It's based on a cult computer game. The expectation ratings are very high. The rental is scheduled for the end of August. And the third project is Lynn Ramsey's film Die My Love starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson. This is one of the most high—profile, highly rated projects of the main competition of the Cannes Film Festival," Dolzhenko notes.

Psychological drama, horror and comedy — this is how critics define the genre of the picture. This is the story of a beloved couple. Grace and Jackson's life changes dramatically after the birth of a child and moving to a lost house in the mountains of Montana. Grace is facing an existential crisis that escalates into psychosis.

The rental is scheduled for November. The film was purchased jointly with Provzglyad partners by Vesta, which will also act as an operator on platforms and television.

The return of the "Gun Baron"

The distributor ARNA MEDIA is bringing the comedy "All Her Exes" by Michael Angelo to Russia (the release date has not yet been determined). Starring Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, Nicholas Brown, O.T. Fagbenley, Simon Webster. The film tells the story of two couples going through a crisis. They decide to try an open relationship. But the sexual experiment quickly spirals out of control. Conor begins secretly dating Julie, Ashley embarks on all sorts of adventures, and Paul dreams only of one thing — to return everything as it was.

Well, in 2026, The Gun Baron 2 will be released with Nicolas Cage in the title role. And he will also be seen in Russia.

"We are waiting for a great cool movie that is very close to the whole country, since The Gun Baron is one of the favorite films of the Russian audience," Nadezhda Motina, president of the Russian company Arna Media, told Izvestia.

Two more stellar paintings are in the works, which Arna Media will also bring to Russia: these are "Treasure Hunters. The Book of Destiny" with Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman and Kevin Costner and "Watch Out, Butler!" with Jean Reno. Read more about these projects in a separate article in Izvestia.

Negligent heirs

The film "The Coming of the Future" (La venue de l'avenir) Cedric Klapisch (Colors of Time in the English box office) participated in an out-of-competition program. It was bought on the film market for the Russian audience by the Russian Reporter. The plot connects two time lines: 1895 and 2024. Four cousins, previously strangers to each other, unexpectedly inherit an abandoned house in Normandy and discover a mysterious shared past. In parallel, the story of their distant ancestor Adele Munier, the owner of the house, who went to Paris in search of her mother at the height of the modernization of the city and the heyday of impressionism, develops. Following in her footsteps, her descendants uncover Adele's past in order to build their own future. Two intertwined periods collide when the modern views of family members are contrasted with the fascinating reality of the 19th century city.

Another valuable acquisition of the Russian Reporter is "The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol" directed by Sylvain Chaume. The world premiere of the film took place on May 17 in the "Special Screenings" section of the Cannes Film Festival. This is an animated biopic that tells the story of the life of playwright, writer and director Marcel Pagnol. In our cinemas — starting from December 13.

Joachim Trier's painting "Sentimental Value" (Affeksjonsverdi) is waiting for us, it is one of the favorites of the Cannes competition. Starring Elle Fanning and Stellan Skarsgard, the script was written by Eskil Vogt, Trier's regular collaborator.

The story of a family that has been living in the same house in Oslo for several generations. The main characters are sisters Nora and Agnes, as well as their eccentric and charismatic father, director Gustav, who suddenly returns to the girls' lives after many years of absence. He tries to make amends and offers his eldest daughter the lead role in his new film. But she doesn't really want to work with her father.

The tape was bought by A-One. Now the main question is whether he will get any prize.

Alpha without Omega

Julia Ducourneau's film Alpha can also compete with Trier, it will be brought to Russia by the independent film distribution company Exponenta Film. The action takes place in the late 1980s. 13-year-old Alpha lives with her mother. The transition age creates problems not only for others, but also for her. A girl's life collapses after a mysterious tattoo appears on her arm. The mother suspects that her daughter is infected with an incurable disease that turns people to stone.

Well, RWV Film will bring to Russia the opening film of the 2025 festival, the French musical "Leave Once" (Partir un Jour) Amelie Bonnen. The name is likely to be different. This is the director's debut full-length film, based on the 2021 short film Bye Bye, which won the Cesar Award.

We also did not forget about the children and the repertoire for family viewing. The cartoon Twisted was created by Lino DiSalvo, known for the film "Cold Heart". In Russia, it will be released in the first quarter of 2027 under the name "Badalisk. The monster's school."

The action takes place in a picturesque Italian village in the Alps, where the main character is Angelina. She accidentally disrupts her city's favorite festival and unleashes a swarm of mischievous magical creatures. Each of them is born out of the lies she tells to cover her tracks. To restore order, Angelina will have to travel to Italy with Badalisk, a mythical creature who speaks only the truth.

The festival itself will end on Saturday evening, and the intrigue surrounding the jury's decisions remains for the time being. But the results of the Marche du Film are already clear: they give hope for a return to the Russian distribution of big European cinema.
