Holding new negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Switzerland is unlikely given the current foreign policy course of the confederation. This was announced to Izvestia on May 23 at the Russian Embassy in Bern, commenting on the possibility of organizing such a meeting.

"We do not observe any structural changes in Bern's foreign policy, which remains openly unfriendly towards our country. <...> At the same time, there is no question of a lack of potential intermediary countries for organizing Russian-Ukrainian contacts," the embassy said.

According to the diplomatic mission, in recent days Switzerland has intensified attempts to offer its "good offices" in the context of resolving the situation in Ukraine. The embassy noted that the country's official authorities probably saw a "window of opportunity" that they are trying to take advantage of.

"While maintaining the current dynamics and the openly pro—Kiev course of the Swiss authorities, the issue of organizing such a meeting on the territory of the confederation is rather speculative," the embassy concluded.

On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that there were currently no decisions regarding the venue for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to resolve the conflict. He added that a decision on a venue for negotiations will be made "when the time comes."
