The Kremlin pointed to the growing contradictions in the European Union

Contradictions are growing in the European Union (EU) amid the discussion of Hungary's disenfranchisement. This was announced by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov at a briefing on May 23.
"There are certain contradictions in the EU itself, of course. There is such a definite mainstream <...> European, which is absolutely disliked by a number of European countries that advocate a more independent policy," he said, commenting on the EU's desire to deprive Budapest's representatives of the right to vote in the association.
Peskov added that the countries of the association, which wish to pursue a sovereign policy and do not want to infringe on their own interests, cause a contradiction in the association.
On May 23, the EU announced that the unification Council would discuss on May 27 the possible deprivation of Hungary's voting rights under article 7 of the Treaty on European Union. It can be applied to a member State in the event of a "systematic violation of EU values," including the principles of the "rule of law."
