Likhachev announced Rosatom's provision of a nuclear shield for Russia

Rosatom State Corporation maintains Russia's nuclear shield at the proper level so that no one would even have the thought of using nuclear weapons against the Russian state. This was stated by the head of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev.

"The absolute priority, the mission for which we were created 80 years ago, is the protection of our sovereignty, the country's defense capability, the maintenance and development of the nuclear shield of our Homeland. This work continues at the proper level," he said, speaking at the government hour in the Federation Council.

In addition, Likhachev said that Rosatom plans to increase the share of nuclear energy in Russia from 20% to 25% by 2040. He specified that nuclear power plants will appear in Siberia and the Far East.

During the implementation of the general scheme for the development of nuclear energy, it is planned to replicate already proven technologies, Likhachev said. In particular, we are talking about water-to-water reactors with a capacity of 600, 1 thousand and 1.2 thousand megawatts, as well as small nuclear power plants in both land-based and floating versions. All these projects will be innovative and meet modern energy requirements, the head of the state corporation emphasized.

Last December, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia was not tightening its nuclear doctrine, but was improving it. He also added that a sufficient number of modern weapons systems are practically replacing the use of nuclear weapons.
