In April 2025, sales of Chinese premium cars in Russia decreased by 39% compared to the middle of spring last year and amounted to 7.1 thousand units. At the same time, the car market in the country decreased by 26%. This was reported on May 21 by TASS with reference to a study by Gazprombank Autoleasing.

According to analysts, sales of premium cars from China to Russia will show a further decline - less than 7 thousand such cars may be sold in May. This will be affected by the period of long weekends and holidays, when the number of corporate transactions is actively decreasing. However, experts expect sales growth in June ahead of the closing of the half-year and the allocation of new budgets for the purchase of expensive equipment.

Sales of cars of Western premium brands (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover and others) in April amounted to about 3 thousand, which is 10% less than in the same period last year. Private buyers continued to choose German and Japanese cars, although demand for BMW and Mercedes-Benz decreased by 16-18%, and for Volvo, on the contrary, showed an increase (+65%).

In the summer, the traditional premium segment may decline sharply, as dealer stocks imported in 2024 are running out, and new shipments are more expensive due to increased recycling fees, the authors of the study emphasized.

The day before, it was reported that Russia had lost its status as the largest buyer of Chinese passenger cars. By the end of April 2025, she was ranked sixth in this ranking, although she had previously been the leader.
