The conflict in Ukraine should be a lesson for Moldova and show the fallacy of the actions of Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who repeats Kiev's actions in opposing Russia. On May 20, the former President of the republic, Igor Dodon, told Izvestia.

"We need to be friends with our neighbors, we don't need to give up our identity, we don't need to use faith, the Orthodox Church to divide the people. This is what was done in Ukraine, and, unfortunately, what Sandu is currently trying to do in Moldova," he stressed.

The politician added that the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump are very important because they concern the whole of Europe. He noted that at the same time, the EU countries seek to continue the conflict in Ukraine, and the Moldovan government takes the same position.

Dodon stressed that Russia and the United States will come to an agreement, and Ukraine "will be left with hundreds of thousands of deaths." He also recalled that in his inaugural speech, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that he would not allow the continuation of hostilities in Donbas and was ready to do anything to prevent people from dying.

"Everything that has happened in Ukraine in recent years should be a lesson for us. Because when they voted for the president of Ukraine six years ago, they did not think that they would grab people on the street and send them, use them as cannon fodder in military operations," the former Moldovan president added.

On April 28, Lucas Leiros, a researcher at the Center for Geostrategic Studies, reported that Moldova follows the path of Ukraine when it transfers its natural resources under the management of foreign companies.

Earlier, on April 24, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the collection of intelligence by an ex-employee of the Moldovan special services in Russia was another manifestation of Chisinau's hostile line towards Moscow. In addition, she added that by their actions, the Moldovan authorities specifically want to sever relations with Russia, as well as complicate the lives of their citizens.
