Kiev needs significant assistance from the United States in the context of the conflict in Ukraine. The Guardian newspaper wrote about this on May 18, citing the opinion of Ukrainian officials.

According to one of the sources of the publication, without Washington's active support, the balance of power in the military confrontation inevitably leans towards the Russian Federation. At the same time, according to him, the Kiev regime will strive to preserve military supplies even after a peaceful settlement.

"[Ukraine's] neutrality is a framing issue. But we cannot agree to sever ties with the West," the newspaper quoted him as saying.

Earlier, on May 6, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, responding to a question from Izvestia, said that continued military supplies to Ukraine were delaying prospects for a peaceful settlement and leading to an escalation of the conflict. She also expressed the hope that this is understood in countries where they are thinking about military assistance to Kiev.
