Iran is seeking a fair agreement with the United States within the framework of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). This was announced on May 18 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Abbas Araqchi.

"We want a fair and balanced agreement that will truly and tangibly lift the brutal and unilateral sanctions aimed directly at our people," IRNA quoted him as saying.

In particular, the minister noted that the deal implies full respect for Iran's nuclear rights.

Earlier in the day, Araqchi had a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. According to the Turkish ministry, the dialogue was devoted to negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.

On May 16, US President Donald Trump said that Washington had made it clear to Tehran that the Islamic Republic should not have nuclear weapons. At the same time, he stressed that Iran has little time to think about this issue.
