The Kremlin allowed a meeting between Putin and Zelensky

A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky is possible as a result of the parties' work and agreements. This was announced on May 17 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"We consider it (the meeting. — Ed.) possible. But it is precisely as a result of work and the achievement of certain results in the form of agreements," he said at a briefing.
According to him, the main and fundamental question for the Russian Federation is who will sign the documents from the Ukrainian side.
On May 16, the Russian and Ukrainian delegations at the talks agreed to present their vision of a cease-fire and to exchange prisoners of war in the 1,000-by-1,000 format.
