The calculation of the Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) of the Vostok group of forces destroyed the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the South Donets direction of the special military operation (SVO). This was announced on Saturday, May 17, by the Russian Defense Ministry.
"In the Yuzhnodonets direction, calculations of the Buk-M2 anti—aircraft missile systems of the Vostok group of forces intercepted and destroyed HIMARS multiple rocket launcher missiles fired at the rear positions of the troops," the defense ministry said in a statement.
During combat duty, the gunners discovered an airborne aerodynamic target on approach to the positions of the Russian military. After that, it was decided to destroy the Ukrainian equipment and the calculation carried out the launch of an anti-aircraft guided missile, eliminating the "HIMARS" rockets manufactured in the USA.
"This type of missile goes at altitudes from 15 to 22 km. The speeds allow us to work. The speed is 490 m/s. We work very well. I have about 50 launches that have been tested specifically on the affected targets. We only work on ballistics or on low—flying targets," said the battery commander with the call sign Bear.
Earlier, on May 16, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the calculation of the Kornet anti-tank missile systems (ATGMS) of the Southern Group of Forces destroyed two US-made MaxxPro and Bradley armored combat vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Alexandrovsko-Kalinovsky area of the SVR. It is specified that the Ukrainian militants tried to rotate their personnel on the front line using American equipment. However, aerial reconnaissance revealed the enemy's intentions and transmitted the coordinates to the ATGM mobile group.
