France accused von der Leyen of trying to start a war with Russia

The statement by the head of the European Commission (EU) Ursula von der Leyen on new sanctions against Russia means that Europe is still striving for war with the Russian Federation. This was announced on May 16 by the leader of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot.
"Ursula von der Leyen announces her insane desire for war against Russia, for the third World War! <...> These people need to be stopped!" he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter), commenting on the statement of the head of the European Commission on possible sanctions against the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
The politician also called for France's withdrawal from the European Union (EU) for the sake of peace.
Earlier in the day, von der Leyen threatened sanctions against Nord Streams. According to her, the EU intends to increase economic pressure on Russia, including through restrictions in the energy sector.
On the same day, it was reported that EU countries were considering an initiative to impose a full trade embargo against Russia. It is noted that Europe borrowed the idea of new restrictions from US Senator Lindsey Graham (Russia is on the list of extremists and terrorists), who proposed to impose duties of 500% on Russian exports.
On May 14, the European Union agreed on the 17th package of anti-Russian sanctions. The Euractiv portal, citing diplomats, reported that Hungary and Slovakia supported the measures included in it due to their relative weakness. Von der Leyen clarified that it included 189 tankers that allegedly transport Russian oil under the flags of various states.
