The British authorities are trying to threaten Russia with new sanctions in order to disrupt the negotiation process on Ukraine, but all these attempts are absolutely useless. This was stated on May 16 in a statement by the Russian Embassy in the United Kingdom.

"London's next attempts to intimidate our country with threats of new illegal restrictions in case of "disobedience" are absolutely useless," TASS reports.

The diplomatic mission noted that previous sanctions imposed by the British on Russia's holy Victory Day holiday on May 9 made Moscow doubt that London honors the memory of the Allies' feat in the fight against fascism.

"Now, such ultimatums made against the background of the negotiation process are obviously aimed at complicating or undermining the settlement," they said.

Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said on March 15 that the EU would immediately begin developing the 18th package of sanctions against Russia. According to her, the adoption of the 17th package was the right decision. A day earlier, the EU ambassadors agreed on the 17th package of sanctions against Russia.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, responding to a question from Izvestia on May 15, said Russia would take measured retaliatory steps against European Union (EU) sanctions.
