Ukraine informed the United States about the results of negotiations with Russia in Istanbul. This was announced on May 16 by the representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Georgy Tikhy, at a briefing.
"As far as I understand, the Ukrainian side has already informed the American side about the outcome of the negotiations," RIA Novosti quoted Tikhy as saying.
In addition, as reported by the Ukrainian newspaper "Strana.ua," a representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that Ukraine considers the demands put forward by Russia "unacceptable." He stressed that the Ukrainian delegation defended its position during the negotiations in Istanbul.
On the same day, he had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump after talks between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Istanbul. It was attended by the Presidents of Ukraine and France, Vladimir Zelensky, Emmanuel Macron, the Prime Ministers of Poland and the United Kingdom, Donald Tusk and Keir Starmer, as well as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
On May 16, the Russian and Ukrainian delegations at the talks agreed to present their vision of a cease-fire and to exchange prisoners of war in the "1000 by 1000" format.
It was reported that the meeting was organized at the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul. The Russian Federation was represented by a delegation consisting of Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Galuzin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Igor Kostyukov, Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, and Alexander Fomin, Deputy Minister of Defense.
