The trade turnover between Russia and Afghanistan has great potential, and the proposed areas of cooperation include projects in the energy sector, transport engineering, and the mining industry. This was announced on May 16 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk during the Russian-Afghan Business Forum in Kazan, which is taking place at the XVI International Economic Forum "Russia — the Islamic World: KazanForum".

"The trade turnover between our countries has significant potential today. <...> We see good opportunities here for the supply of Russian industrial products, for the joint development of production in Afghanistan, for the construction of energy facilities and infrastructure facilities," he said.

Overchuk said that the experience of Russian companies in the mining industry will be in demand in Afghanistan. In addition, Russian enterprises are ready to share their expertise in the field of geological exploration and offer various types of mining equipment. Following the results of the forum, the parties will sign a number of documents, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed.

"We propose to conduct comprehensive geological surveys. We are ready to provide support in the exploration and development of deposits of scarce types of strategic mineral raw materials and rare earth metals," he added.

In April, Overchuk told Izvestia that Afghanistan has many problems, but there is potential, and Russia is expected there. According to him, peace is coming to Afghanistan today and opportunities are opening up that did not exist before. This is also related to the implementation of transport and logistics capabilities.
