On May 16, the Russian and Ukrainian delegations arrived at the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul. Footage from the scene on May 16 is published by Izvestia.

"At once, after a long wait, but on the morning of May 16, the delegations of both Russia and Ukraine entered the Dolmabakhcha Sultan's palace. At least some contacts have definitely taken place between them," said Izvestia correspondent Viktor Sineok.

According to him, the military is on duty near the palace, as well as numerous representatives of the press.

The delegation is headed by Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation. It also includes Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Igor Kostyukov and Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin.

Ukraine will be represented by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, First Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsa, Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Alexander Poklad, First Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Intelligence Service Oleg Lugovskoy, Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Vadim Skibitsky and other officials and officers.

Medinsky noted yesterday that the Russian negotiating group in Istanbul is determined to find possible solutions and common ground on Ukraine. He pointed out that the Russian side considers the direct talks in Istanbul as a continuation of the peace process, which was interrupted by Ukraine three years ago.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that the Russian delegation had arrived in Istanbul for talks with Ukraine and was ready for serious work. According to her, the purpose of these discussions is to "eliminate the root causes of the conflict, to establish a long-term lasting peace in the historical perspective."
