The White House announced the expectation of an early meeting between Trump and Putin.

A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump will take place in the near future. This was announced on Thursday, May 15, by Deputy assistant to the US leader Sebastian Gorka.

"When the time is right, then the president [Trump] will be in the room with Putin. And I expect that this will happen in the very near future," he said in an interview with Politico, adding that any agreements between the countries are completely time—dependent.

As Gorka pointed out, Trump still adheres to realistic views on the territorial aspect of resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

The United States may join the dialogue between Moscow and Kiev.

On the same day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that restoring relations between Russia and the United States was an extremely difficult and time-consuming process. He stressed that although the issue of Ukraine is of great importance, it is not the only factor that will be taken into account when planning contacts between the Russian and American sides.
