- The EP approved the introduction of duties on all agricultural imports from the Russian Federation

The European Parliament's (EP) Committee on Trade has approved the European Commission's (EC) proposal to impose duties on imports of all agricultural products from Russia. This was reported on May 15 in the press service of the organization.
"The EP deputies in the International Trade Committee supported the EC's proposal to increase tariffs of the European Union (EU) by 50% on those agricultural products from Russia and Belarus that are still exempt from other customs duties. The goal is to further reduce the EU's dependence on these two countries," reads a statement on the EP's website.
It is specified that the new tariffs will affect sugar, vinegar, flour and animal feed. The duties will become fully effective by 2028 and will rise to €430 per ton.
The fact that the EC plans to impose duties on agricultural products, nitrogen fertilizers from Russia and Belarus became known on January 28. It was noted that the tariffs would support the growth of domestic production and the EU fertilizer industry, which suffered during the energy crisis, and would also allow for the diversification of supplies from third countries.
At the same time, the EC approved duties on a number of agricultural products from Russia and some nitrogen fertilizers. At the same time, exports of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to third countries will remain unchanged.
