Szijjarto urged not to confuse the defense of NATO and the defense of Ukraine

NATO countries need to separate the concepts of alliance defense and protection of Ukraine. This was announced on May 15 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
"One thing is for sure: we should not confuse the defense of the alliance, our own defense with the defense of Ukraine," Szijjarto said upon arrival in Antalya, Turkey.
He explained that Kiev is engaged only in its own defense, and not in the defense of Europe or the North Atlantic Alliance as a whole.
"We need to focus on protecting ourselves <...> It is necessary to support any peaceful efforts, while ensuring the ability to protect ourselves from any threat," Szijjarto urged.
Earlier, on May 13, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, called on the alliance not to be part of the Ukrainian conflict. In his opinion, opportunities for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine should not be missed.
