The conflict in Ukraine cannot be resolved militarily. This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers on May 15, which was broadcast on the Reuters YouTube channel.

"This <conflict> will be ended not by military means, but by diplomatic means," he said.

Rubio also stressed that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, is open to any mechanism that will lead to a settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.

"He is open to any mechanism that will lead to peace. We want to see progress. Whatever mechanism is emerging or whatever process is taking place, we are open to constructive dialogue," concluded the Secretary of State.

On May 12, Trump said that the meeting of representatives of Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul was a very important event. The American leader expressed confidence that significant results could be achieved during the negotiations, which would contribute to a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin took the initiative to hold direct talks, inviting the Ukrainian side to resume dialogue on May 15. Later, the head of state approved the composition of experts for negotiations with Ukraine. The delegation will be headed by Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation.
