Turkey has stepped up security measures in the capital in connection with the talks between Russia and Ukraine, which will be held on May 15.

"Security measures are already being taken very seriously in Istanbul, but this time there is an increase here — armored vehicles are also on duty in crowded areas," said Izvestia correspondent Viktor Sineok.

According to the journalist, armored vehicles are operating on the streets of the city along with police cars. These measures are aimed at ensuring security during negotiations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated direct talks on May 11, inviting the Ukrainian side to resume dialogue on May 15 in Istanbul three years later. US President Donald Trump, in turn, called on Ukraine to immediately accept Russia's proposal.

On May 14, Putin approved the composition of experts for negotiations. The Russian delegation will be headed by Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation.
