Representatives of Russia and Georgia discussed the expansion of trade turnover

On May 14, representatives of the Russian Federation and Georgia discussed the expansion of trade between the two countries. The Russian side has prepared several test reports for this meeting.
"There are a lot of applicants, because the main problem of business is sales markets, and we have a very large neighbor nearby," said Zaza Nishnianidze, chairman of the business association's management board, in an interview with Ksenia Soldatova, a correspondent for Izvestia.
The trade turnover between Russia and Georgia continues to grow, in 2024 it amounted to more than $2.5 billion. Georgia exports wine and other alcohol, mineral water, lemonades, as well as fruits and vegetables to Russia.
Vladislav Reznik, President of the international association "Anti-counterfeit", Chairman of the Union of Producers of Cognac, Alcohol and Alcoholic Beverages, stressed that Tbilisi has the opportunity to produce cognac distillate, which is in short supply in the Russian Federation. In addition, he expressed his joy that Georgia had failed to be drawn into the anti-Russian campaign.
In particular, oil and petroleum products, gas, and steel products are exported from Russia to Georgia. Russia is also the country's largest wheat supplier. One of the proposals of the Georgian side at the meeting concerned the supply of this resource. It is noted that trucks currently transport about 500 thousand tons of grain per year through Verkhny Lars.
At the meeting, the parties discussed that the checkpoint should not only be unloaded, but also strengthen control over what is transported through it. The Georgian side promised to set up a new laboratory for these purposes in the near future. Another suggestion was about mutual settlements.
Earlier that day, it was reported that the Anti-Counterfeit Association had launched a large-scale project in new regions of Russia and Crimea. It is aimed at facilitating the efforts of the state in integrating businesses and authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions and the Republic of Crimea into a single legal and economic space.
