The ambassadors from Hungary and Slovakia supported the new 17th package of sanctions against Russia due to its relative weakness. This was announced on May 14 by the Euractiv portal with reference to diplomats.

"Hungary and Slovakia <...> supported the package of measures due to its relative weakness," the publication says.

It is specified that the new package of sanctions may include a ban on issuing visas, freezing assets for high-ranking political figures. It also includes a ban on the export of chemicals used for the production of weapons, trade restrictions for companies taking actions to circumvent sanctions, and more.

According to the representatives of Sweden and Finland, the 17th package should be approved by their national parliaments. As the diplomats indicated, it is expected that the measures will be approved.

The approval by the ambassadors of the European Union (EU) countries of a new 17th package of sanctions against was reported earlier on the same day.

At the same time, on May 13, the Handelsblatt newspaper wrote that the EU states would not be able to agree on tough measures in the new package of anti-Russian sanctions, as this could lead to a protest from some countries that are part of the association.
