American actor Robert De Niro won the Palme d'Or at the 78th Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, May 13.

In his speech on stage, the actor criticized US President Donald Trump and his proposal to impose duties on any films produced abroad.

"You can't put a price on creativity, but obviously you can put a fee on it <... of course, this is unacceptable," the actor was quoted as saying by Reuters.

He called on "everyone who cares about freedom" to protest against Trump.

Earlier, on May 25, the film "Anora" directed by Sean Baker with the participation of Russian actors won the Palme d'Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The winners' announcement ceremony was held at the Palace of Festivals. Actors Yuri Borisov and Mark Eidelstein played some of the main roles, Alexey Serebryakov and Yekamasova — episodic.
