Prisoners escaped from Al-Jadid prison in Tripoli amid clashes
Prisoners have escaped from Al-Jadida prison, located east of the Libyan capital Tripoli. This was reported on Wednesday, May 14, by Al Jazeera TV channel.
According to a statement from the metropolitan Provincial Police, most of the escaped prisoners were sentenced for serious crimes.
Also, at least three municipalities of the Libyan capital suspended classes and exams in educational institutions due to the shooting.
Armed clashes in Tripoli began on May 12 after the assassination of the head of the security service at the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdelghani al-Kikli. The local ambulance service reported six casualties. The Russian embassy in the country clarified that it was not affected by the armed clashes. Armed clashes were again reported in several districts of the Libyan capital on May 13.
Later, on May 13, it became known that at least six people were killed in armed clashes in Tripoli. It is noted that the bodies of the victims were found in the Abu Salim area, where the clashes took place.
