Modern children should know Soviet fairy tales, as well as films of the "school cinema" genre. Natalia Primakova, President of the Guild of Film Critics and Cinematographers of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, told Izvestia on May 13.

According to her, the list of the 100 best Soviet and Russian films should include family and children's films. These include fairy tales, adventure films, animal films, war films, as well as sports dramas and adaptations of classics.

She noted that children should know Soviet fairy tales. In addition, Primakova added that during the Soviet era, the genre of "school cinema" was greatly developed — these are, for example, the films of Dinara Asanova, the debut film directed by Vladimir Menshov "The Draw", as well as the films "Scarecrow", "You never dreamed", "We'll live to see Monday".

Among the films worthy of the list, she named the films "Sis", "Private Pioneer", "Kostya Nika", "Chuck and Huck". Primakova also stressed that the list should include the Russian cinema Cheburashka, films about animals (Palm, Africa, Fire Fox) and sports dramas (Upward Movement, Ice).

She also noted that, in her opinion, film critics should definitely be involved in the selection.

"There must be a serious selection process in which film critics must necessarily participate, not just directors, actors, cameramen or producers. In my opinion, it is film critics who evaluate cinema as a whole and can identify its ideological, patriotic, educational and educational principles," she said.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Education and the Presidential Council for Culture and the Arts to compile a list of 100 Soviet and Russian films to be shown in schools.

In addition, he instructed the government, together with the Federal Fund for Social and Economic Support of Russian Cinematography, to direct 20% of the funds allocated for state support of cinema to finance national animated films.
