Russia is following the negotiations between the United States and Iran, and is ready to support both countries in organizing a dialogue. This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov in an interview with reporters on May 13.

"We are closely following what is happening in the direct dialogue between Iran and the United States. We are ready to provide all possible assistance to this dialogue. The parties are well aware of our readiness," TASS quoted him as saying.

At the same time, the diplomat stated that the chances of bringing together a full-fledged "six" (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) at the negotiating table on Iran are very small. In his opinion, the restoration of such a negotiation format should not be expected in the near future.

When asked whether Russia and the United States are discussing the Iranian nuclear program, Ryabkov noted that the Middle East is always present in contacts with Washington, but all topics are closed.

Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian said on May 11 that the country's complete abandonment of its nuclear program was impossible. In addition, he noted that it is planned to further develop Iran's peaceful nuclear industry and seek common ground during the negotiations, which are necessary, among other things, to show Tehran's desire for peace, not conflict.

Vladimir Demidov, an expert on the resources and energy market, suggested the next day in an interview with Izvestia that the Iranian authorities and the administration of US President Donald Trump are trying to reduce tensions in relations and are looking for ways to de-escalate, but the United States may continue to put pressure on Iran to achieve greater concessions.

On April 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that Moscow could become a mediator in negotiations between Washington and Tehran. He stated that the Islamic Republic is ready to make common decisions within the framework of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
