An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred in the large volcanic area of the Phlegrean fields in Italy. This was announced on May 13 on the website of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of the country (INGV).

It is noted that the tremor was recorded west of Naples at 12:07 local time (13:07 Moscow time), the epicenter was at a depth of 3 km.

Train traffic was suspended in the areas surrounding the seismic event, and the tracks are being checked for damage, the railway operator told the Mattino portal.

According to the newspaper, after the earthquake, some schools in Naples, Pozzuoli and the suburbs were evacuated.

Strong seismic activity in Italy was also observed in mid-March. At that time, an earthquake of magnitude 4.4 was recorded 16 km southwest of Naples.

The next day, on March 14, an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 was recorded off the coast of San Nicandro Gargarinco. After this tremor, experts noticed seven more earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 2.0 to 3.8 in the same area.
