Armed clashes broke out in the Libyan capital


Armed clashes have occurred in the Libyan capital Tripoli, and shots have been heard. This was announced on Monday, May 12, according to Al Mayadeen.
The Interior Ministry of the Government of National Unity urged the local population not to leave their homes. The clashes began after the assassination of Chief of Staff Abdelghani al-Kikli.
"The Interior Ministry calls on all residents of Tripoli to stay at home and not go outside for their own safety due to the ongoing clashes between the 444th Combat Brigade, supported by the Misrata Brigade, and the Security and Stability Apparatus," the ministry said in a statement.
The operation of the international Libyan airport of Mitiga was also suspended. Until the end of the clashes, flights will be redirected to the city of Misrata, located 200 km east of Tripoli.
On May 10, it was reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin met in the Kremlin with the commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Khalifa Haftar.
Before that, on May 8, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, met with the head of the LNA, Haftar, in Moscow. During the conversation, issues related to the security situation in Libya, as well as in North Africa and the Sahara-Sahel region were discussed.
