The auto expert listed five reasons for the increased oil consumption

The increased oil consumption in the engine can be caused by the lack of tightness of oil seals, gaskets and other parts of the power plant, the problem is solved by replacing such elements. The director of Vertex Group (manufacturer of the Tamashi brand) listed these and other reasons for the oil burning Konstantin Ozhogin.

The specialist called the discrepancy between the viscosity of the liquid and the recommendations of the automaker the second reason for oil consumption, this is solved by replacing the oil and filter. However, a more complex reason lies inside the engine — it is related either to the wear of the oil-removing caps on the valves, or to the failure of the piston rings or the increased diameter of the cylinders in the block.

"If in the first case it is relatively inexpensive to replace the caps in the cylinder head, then in the second case patience and preparation for the overhaul of the engine will be required. Improper adjustment of the valve mechanism can also cause the oil to disappear from the engine," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes Ozhogin.

Prolonged engine operation at idle and high speeds also leads to oil consumption, the expert added.
