The State Duma warned Merz against rash steps against Russia
The German Chancellor needs to be more careful in conducting foreign policy with Russia and not take rash steps. This was announced on May 11 by State Duma deputy from the Crimean region, Reserve Major General Leonid Ivlev.
"Chancellor Merz should pursue a more balanced policy towards Russia, as rash steps may lead to Bundestag deputies using the right to issue an ultimatum and dismiss him for inappropriate policies," the deputy said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He noted that in Germany, such an initiative by politicians is called a collective vote of no confidence. In addition, Ivlev added that Merz needs to remember the mistakes of his predecessor Olaf Scholz and the price he can pay if he makes a mistake in matters of the country's foreign policy.
The German newspaper Bild reported on May 11 that less than 25% of German citizens are satisfied with the work of the new German chancellor. It was clarified that the survey was conducted on May 8-9 among more than 1,000 German residents, while its margin of error was not indicated. According to the results, only 23% of respondents positively assessed Merz's work, while 49% spoke negatively about it, and 28% found it difficult to answer.
