Poland named possible mediators to resolve the conflict in Ukraine

If the United States withdraws from negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, Turkey and China may act as a mediator between Moscow and Kiev. This statement was made on May 8 by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.

He stressed that he wishes Washington success in mediation, but if the United States decides to leave the negotiation process, there are other options.

"If this [negotiation] process [involving the United States] fails, there are other candidates. There is Turkey, which maintains open communication channels, and, above all, there is China," Sikorski said during a joint press conference with the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.

On May 8, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States administration, together with its partners, would impose sanctions if a 30-day ceasefire was not reached in Ukraine. On the same day, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance noted that the United States would continue to work towards a rapprochement between Moscow and Kiev until it realized that progress was impossible.
