In the third season of the series "SMERSH 3", which premieres on Thursday, May 8, on REN TV, viewers will learn little-known facts about the Great Patriotic War (WWII) and the heroic work of the scouts of that time. The details were reported by a correspondent of Izvestia.

The fiction added by the scriptwriters emphasized the incredible story of the espionage confrontation and the real feat that the USSR counterintelligence accomplished by thwarting the enemy's plans to assassinate the head of the country, Joseph Stalin, and Marshal Georgy Zhukov, the commander of military operations.

Today, exhibitions tell about how SMERSH counterintelligence agents seized the file of the Wehrmacht agents during the liberation of Riga in 1944. Then a group led by Captain Mikhail Pospelov obtained valuable documents that made it possible to expose hundreds of enemy spies.

"We held out for more than six hours in a surrounded building. Six people were fighting against at least two enemy companies: 200 people against six," said Alexander Makushin, a historian and expert at the Russian Military Historical Society.

The German enemy always had backup options: double agents and saboteurs, ready to join at any moment, said correspondent Roman Polshakov. However, the best SMERSH counterintelligence officers, Lavrov and Semenov, who know several foreign languages, have a brilliant mind and first—class combat training, managed to resist the best intelligence officers of the third Reich.

On May 7, Izvestia noted that the series "SMERSH 3" reveals the secret details of Soviet counterintelligence operations during the Second World War. The best counterintelligence agents are facing a dangerous enemy — the treacherous German special services. During the war, SMERSH counterintelligence officers conducted hundreds of successful operations, including thwarting an assassination attempt on top officials.
